<i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">account_balance</i><br/>Donald Haberman, Navy<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>Born in Bottineau and raised in Elgin, Don enlisted in the Navy in Dec 1950 – about 6 months after the start of Korean War. He served his country on the Destroyer Escort USS McGinty, stationed out of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, until after the end of the Korean War. During his service, he received the following medals shown below (l to r) – a Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 stars (for his participation in 3 of the 8 Navy campaigns), Korea Presidential Unit Citation and United Nations Medal. He returned to North Dakota where he married his wife, Madonna, in Oct 1956. Don was an active member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church of Minot and served as a Grand Knight and 4th degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was married for over 56 years until his wife’s passing in Dec 2012. Four months later, Don passed away.
