He flew reconnaissance missions in France, Germany and Austria to recover the bodies of our fallen aviators. They would be flown to Orly Field in Paris to be identified and sent home to their families. He stayed in France after the war to fly for EATS, an airline that flew dignitaries around Europe since the US had the only remaining aircraft. Like many Veterans, my Dad didn’t talk much about his experiences. Sadly, my Dad passed in 2022 and his story is lost forever. Harlow Brewer, who we lost in the Philippines during WWII on Halloween 1942. He was a dentist in the Army Medical Corps and died in a prison camp. He is buried in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Nebraska. Our family was forever changed by losing him at such a young age. I wish we all could have met him and got to know him. In loving memory of my father-in-law, Wilbur Gale High from VanWert, Ohio. He was a gunner on a B-17 during WWII. He became a prisoner of war. He came home to his wife, Julia, went to school on the GI bill, had 4 children, Cheryl, Gail Lynn, and twins Tim and Tom. He was a very special person.
