James passed away of natural causes at 78 years of age.
James joined the Navy Jan. 22nd. 1962 and honorably discharged Jan. 21st. 1968. When he discharged he was an E-3. A member of Seal team one. He served 2 tours in Vietnam. As a SEAL, James took part in the Splashdown recovery of the Gemini 5 space capsule off Florida August 29,1965, carrying Gordon Cooper and Charles Conrad.
James was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam service medal, Navy unit commendation medal & the Good Conduct Medal.
When James left the Navy, he did some professional boxing & trained boxers. He fought in the middle weight class. He also worked as under water welder, building boats. He was also an iron worker in local 272.
His hobbies were running on the beach, working out, watching movies. His biggest activity was church. He loved to go to church. He was a good Christian man.
James was survived by 3 daughters, Tammy Gibavitch, Leslie Schmitt, & Staica Gibavitch. He had 7 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.
