He served on active duty for over twenty years, was a veteran of the Second World War and the Korean War and spent four years in combat duty. He was a highly decorated soldier and received amongst many others the Bronze Star, the European-African-Mediterranean Campaign Medals, the Korean War Service Medal, and eight overseas bars. He served seven years in overseas duty.
