He served as a gunner on a B-17 with the 305th Bomb Group in the 8th AAF. Howard would be KIA less than a month later in February of 1943, when his plane (42-5058) "Hun Hunter," was shot down over German occupied territory in Molac, France. Serving his county during the war and being honorably discharged in February of 1946 as a Warrant Officer in the Continental Air Force/Strategic Air Command in the 1st AAF Base Unit at Andrews Field Washington DC. In remembrance of his service to his country and protecting its freedom.
