He was driving a 5 ton truck when it ran over a box mine in a recon patrol. The explosion blew the back dual tires off of the truck. The explosion blast also ruptured the diesel tank at the same time, just as Ronnie was exiting the vehicle, the blast ignited the fuel and washed him in it. He was burned almost beyond recognition. He lived for three days. He was 20 years old. Ronnie's platoon sergeant relayed this story, as he was there when it happened.</div><a class='btn btn-primary btn-sm mt-2 remember-wall-toggle-long-description' onclick='initRememberWallToggleLongDescriptionBtn(this)'>Learn more</a> Ronald Patrick Russell
